S-Acetyl Glutathione vs NAC
N-acetylcysteine, or NAC, and S-acetyl glutathione are sometimes treated as interchangeable. They are not.

What Human Research Shows
The science of glutathione is extensive. The clinical literature specifically evaluating oral S-acetyl glutathione is much smaller.
A small randomized crossover pharmacokinetic study in healthy adults found greater plasma glutathione exposure following S-acetyl glutathione compared with conventional reduced glutathione. The results showed substantial individual variability, and the study evaluated short-term blood levels rather than long-term clinical outcomes.
A 2025 published safety assessment of S-acetyl glutathione included genotoxicity testing and acute and repeated-dose toxicology studies. The ingredient was well tolerated under the experimental conditions. These findings are useful for ingredient safety assessment, but they should not be confused with a large human trial showing that S-acetyl glutathione prevents disease or improves longevity.
