The HormoneSynergy® perspective: We do not recommend a strict ketogenic diet as a long-term foundation for preventive longevity care. Our preferred starting point is a protein-conscious, plant-forward Mediterranean eating pattern, personalized to your metabolic health, body composition, and cardiovascular risk.
A ketogenic diet can substantially raise LDL cholesterol in some people, particularly when meals rely heavily on butter, coconut oil, fatty meats, and other sources of saturated fat. Restricting legumes, whole grains, and many fruits can also make it harder to obtain adequate fiber and a broad variety of plant nutrients. Weight loss alone does not establish that an eating pattern is protecting cardiovascular health.
These concerns deserve particular attention if you have coronary plaque, established cardiovascular disease, familial hypercholesterolemia, or elevated LDL cholesterol or ApoB. If a ketogenic approach is being considered for a specific clinical purpose, we recommend physician supervision, attention to fat quality and nutritional adequacy, and monitoring of your lipid response, including ApoB when appropriate.
Providing this guide allows you to understand the approach; it does not represent our endorsement of long-term ketogenic eating.
