VasoLabs® Carotid Artery Ultrasound + CIMT
$250
A VasoLabs® carotid artery ultrasound provides a noninvasive assessment of carotid artery wall thickness and visible plaque. The test includes carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) measurement and specialized VasoLabs® analysis to provide additional insight into vascular health and cardiovascular risk.
The ultrasound is performed at HormoneSynergy® in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Images are then submitted to VasoLabs® for analysis and reporting.
Your $250 assessment includes:
- Carotid artery ultrasound performed in our clinic
- Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) measurement
- Assessment for visible carotid plaque
- VasoLabs® analysis and report
- Vascular age assessment
- Age-based CIMT percentile comparison
- Plaque measurements and location when plaque is identified

What Can Carotid Ultrasound Show?
Cardiovascular risk is often estimated using cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, family history, and other risk factors. Carotid ultrasound adds a different type of information by looking directly at the artery wall.
The study can help identify increased carotid artery wall thickness and visible plaque that may provide additional information about atherosclerotic cardiovascular risk.
Understanding Your VasoLabs® Report
Your report may include CIMT measurements, vascular age, age-based percentile comparisons, and information about visible carotid plaque when present.
CIMT percentile does not represent the percentage that an artery is blocked. This test is designed primarily to assess artery-wall thickness and plaque as part of preventive cardiovascular evaluation.

Carotid Ultrasound + CIMT vs. Diagnostic Carotid Duplex
This VasoLabs® study is designed primarily for preventive cardiovascular assessment of carotid artery wall thickness and visible plaque.
It is not the same as a formal diagnostic carotid duplex ultrasound used to evaluate suspected significant carotid stenosis or neurologic symptoms using Doppler blood-flow velocity measurements.
Who May Benefit From Carotid Ultrasound + CIMT?
Carotid ultrasound may be useful for people who want additional information about cardiovascular risk, particularly those with elevated cholesterol or apoB, elevated lipoprotein(a), high blood pressure, insulin resistance, family history of premature cardiovascular disease, a history of smoking, or other cardiovascular risk factors.
It can also be used to establish a vascular baseline that may be compared with future studies.
