A DEXA whole body composition scan provides a detailed measurement of body fat, lean mass, regional body composition, and visceral fat. It is designed for people who want an objective way to assess and track changes in body composition over time.

This option includes whole body composition only. It does not include DEXA bone density testing of the hip or spine.

Who May Benefit From Whole Body Composition Testing?

Whole-body DEXA can be useful for establishing a baseline or monitoring changes in body composition during weight loss, strength training, nutrition changes, healthy-aging programs, or GLP-1 treatment. Tracking lean mass along with fat mass can provide information that body weight alone cannot.

Visceral Fat and Body Composition

DEXA provides measurements beyond a standard scale or BMI calculation. The Hologic® report can help show where fat and lean tissue are distributed throughout the body, including an estimate of visceral adipose tissue in the abdominal region.

For people losing weight, repeated body composition testing can also help show whether changes are coming primarily from fat mass, lean mass, or both.
