Pendulum® Metabolic Daily PRO is no longer available. If you are looking for daily gut microbiome and metabolic-health support, Pendulum's standard Metabolic Daily remains available and contains the same five-organism probiotic ecosystem, including live Akkermansia muciniphila.

Pendulum® Metabolic Daily PRO was the higher-potency professional version of Pendulum's five-strain Metabolic Daily probiotic. Each capsule provided 1 billion AFU of live probiotic organisms, including Akkermansia muciniphila, compared with 300 million AFU per capsule in the standard retail Metabolic Daily formula.
Both formulations use the same five-organism microbiome strategy. The principal difference was the higher total labeled potency of the discontinued PRO formulation.

Metabolic Daily PRO vs. Metabolic Daily
The two products contain the same five probiotic organisms, but they are different finished formulations.
| Feature | Metabolic Daily PRO | Metabolic Daily |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Discontinued | Available |
| Total Potency | 1 billion AFU | 300 million AFU |
| Serving | 1 capsule daily | 1 capsule daily |
| Organisms | Five-strain ecosystem | Same five-strain ecosystem |
| Format | Professional, 30 capsules | Retail, 30 and 90 capsules |
Metabolic Daily PRO provided approximately 3.3 times the total labeled AFU per capsule. That did not mean it had been shown to produce 3.3 times the clinical effect. Probiotic response does not scale that neatly, and the two finished products were not compared head-to-head in a clinical outcomes trial.

The Five-Organism Formula
Metabolic Daily PRO contained a 1 billion AFU probiotic blend consisting of:
- Clostridium butyricum WB-STR-0006
- Clostridium beijerinckii WB-STR-0005
- Bifidobacterium infantis
- Anaerobutyricum hallii WB-STR-0008
- Akkermansia muciniphila WB-STR-0001
The value of the formula was not simply that five organisms were present. Pendulum designed these organisms around different functions within the gut microbiome, including fermentation, microbial cross-feeding, interaction with the intestinal mucus environment, and short-chain fatty acid biology.*
Live Akkermansia muciniphila
Akkermansia muciniphila has become one of the more closely studied organisms in metabolic microbiome research. It naturally lives near the intestinal mucus layer, placing it at an important interface between the gut microbiota and intestinal epithelium.
Human research on Akkermansia has expanded considerably in recent years, including studies examining insulin sensitivity, metabolic physiology, body composition, and weight maintenance. The results remain formulation- and population-specific, but Akkermansia is no longer interesting only because of observational microbiome associations.
Metabolic Daily PRO contained Pendulum's live Akkermansia muciniphila WB-STR-0001. Pendulum's standard Metabolic Daily also contains live Akkermansia muciniphila as part of its five-organism formula.
Butyrate and Microbial Cross-Feeding
Several organisms in the Metabolic Daily formula participate directly or indirectly in production of short-chain fatty acids such as butyrate.
Butyrate is produced when intestinal bacteria ferment dietary substrates. Colon cells use it as an important energy source, and it also participates in signaling related to intestinal barrier integrity, immune regulation, and metabolic physiology.*
Equally important is microbial cross-feeding. One organism can produce metabolites that become fuel for another. This is how an intestinal ecosystem actually operates, and it is one reason the functional relationship between strains can be more informative than simply comparing probiotic counts.
Why the Gut–Metabolism Connection Matters
The microbiome participates in digestion, fermentation, bile acid metabolism, intestinal barrier function, immune signaling, and production of microbial metabolites that communicate with the rest of the body.
Short-chain fatty acids can also interact with intestinal receptors and enteroendocrine cells involved in metabolic signaling. This is one reason the relationship between the microbiome, glucose physiology, appetite signaling, and endogenous hormones such as GLP-1 has become an active area of research.
Pendulum's metabolic microbiome formulations are designed around these normal microbial and metabolic pathways.* They are not substitutes for medication or medical treatment for diabetes, obesity, insulin resistance, or another metabolic condition.
What Does the Clinical Research Show?
Pendulum has published randomized human research using a closely related five-organism formulation in adults with type 2 diabetes. That research demonstrated improvements in post-meal glucose control and provided evidence that this type of deliberately assembled microbial ecosystem can alter metabolic physiology and microbial metabolites in humans.
The distinction between the research formulation and commercial Pendulum products remains important. The earlier clinical formulation was not identical to either today's standard Metabolic Daily or the discontinued Metabolic Daily PRO, and those results should not be interpreted as proof that either finished product lowers A1C or treats diabetes.
The research is nevertheless relevant because the five bacterial species overlap and support the biological rationale behind Pendulum's metabolic microbiome platform.

Looking for Metabolic Daily PRO?
Metabolic Daily PRO has been discontinued.
For those interested in Pendulum's five-organism daily microbiome formula, the standard Pendulum® Metabolic Daily remains available. It contains the same five bacterial species used in Metabolic Daily PRO, including live Akkermansia muciniphila, at a lower total labeled AFU per capsule.

Frequently Asked Questions
Has Pendulum Metabolic Daily PRO been discontinued?
Yes. Pendulum® Metabolic Daily PRO has been discontinued and is no longer available through HormoneSynergy®. Pendulum's standard Metabolic Daily remains available.
What can I use instead of Metabolic Daily PRO?
Pendulum® Metabolic Daily is the closest current option. It contains the same five-organism probiotic ecosystem, including live Akkermansia muciniphila, although it provides a lower total labeled AFU per capsule than the discontinued PRO formulation.
How was Metabolic Daily PRO different from regular Metabolic Daily?
Both contain the same five organisms. Metabolic Daily PRO provided 1 billion total AFU per capsule, while standard retail Metabolic Daily provides 300 million AFU per capsule.
Was Metabolic Daily PRO three times more effective than regular Metabolic Daily?
That was never established. PRO provided approximately 3.3 times the labeled total AFU, but the products were not compared head-to-head in a clinical outcomes trial, and probiotic effects do not necessarily increase in direct proportion to AFU.
Did Metabolic Daily PRO contain live Akkermansia?
Yes. Metabolic Daily PRO contained live Akkermansia muciniphila WB-STR-0001. Standard Metabolic Daily also contains live Akkermansia muciniphila.
What are AFUs?
AFU stands for Active Fluorescent Units, a method used to quantify viable bacterial cells.
What is butyrate and why is it relevant?
Butyrate is a short-chain fatty acid produced through intestinal bacterial fermentation. It serves as an important energy source for colon cells and participates in normal gut barrier, immune, and metabolic signaling.*
Was Metabolic Daily PRO clinically shown to lower A1C?
No. Metabolic Daily PRO itself was not established in a randomized clinical trial as an A1C-lowering treatment. Pendulum has published human research using a closely related five-organism formulation, but those findings should not be treated as direct proof of an A1C effect from the discontinued PRO product or from standard Metabolic Daily.
